Yoga Classes
Overlooking the Wild Atlantic Way in the picturesque Dunree, Anne-Marie offers weekly yoga classes at the Dunree Yoga Centre. Classes are open for all levels, from beginners to advanced, every Tuesday and Thursday.
Anne-Marie McGlinchey - How it all began
September 1972, I had just begun my career as a primary school teacher in Lancashire in England. A colleague at work asked me if I would like to go a yoga class and so I did (knowing nothing about yoga). My immediate reaction was “I am home”. I remember it clearly; we were doing the Cobra pose and something shifted somewhere in the depth of my Being. I understood the significance years later as I studied the philosophy of yoga and learned that the energy of the Cobra pose is about the journey from the Dark into Light. Having received my yoga teacher qualification from the Yoga Society International, based in England, I returned to Ireland in December 1976 with my number one priority – “to teach yoga”.
As well as conducting various yoga classes I founded the Yoga Society Ireland and established my first teacher training course in 1981.
My husband encouraged me to give up my primary school teaching career and focus on yoga saying “not many people have the opportunity to do what they really want to do in their lives – if you want to give up teaching and focus on yoga DO that” and so I did.
Some years later I received an honorary award for my work in yoga especially in the field of teacher training. To date 114 yoga teachers have trained under my guidance.
The foundation of yoga is based on the philosophy of the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita and Patanjali’s yoga sutras, which I incorporate into my teaching. Yoga has been a huge estabilising force in my life, especially in times of stress, the greatest being the death of my husband in 2003. I have been blessed to have had amazing teachers, the most influentional being Vandana Mataji from Jeevan Dhara ashram in the Himalayas – the author of many books.
So, now in 2026 I have embraced technology (which I shunned for many years) and I hope you enjoy and benefit from my presentations
